Dear, dear Yulewriter,
I'm sorry that I don't have much internet presence for you to stalk! (I decided to make a fresh start, after years of lurkerdom where I let my internets identity get uncomfortably connected with my RL one.) For what it's worth, this is my first year doing Yuletide and I'm so bowled over by the idea that someone is writing a fic just!for!me! that I am sure to love whatever you come up with. Hold that in your head if you can't finish my tl;dr.
In general, I like fics that have fluff and/or happy endings, but earn their fluff and happy endings by not being fluffy all the way through. This doesn't necessarily mean "pile on the angst," it just means "conflict is the root of interesting writing." (That's not to say I'm angst-averse! At all!) Or, for that matter, averse to darkfic, although I'd prefer the kind with at least some light in it. I sometimes like crack, but the kind of crack I like best is the crack that leavens a story that's serious underneath--and I feel that that's the only kind of crack that would work, for me, for any of these fandoms except Middleman. Or possibly Coffee Prince. I love witty banter, dialogue generally, UST, Meaningful Friendships, and people bonding over mutual competence. Gen, slash, and het are all welcome and loved. I love plot, largely because I cannot write it myself, but I can also go without it quite happily.
I like self-deprecation and loving deflation of ego, but I have an enormous humiliation squick. It can be a fine line between them, and if you're not sure where you fall then please err on the side of "loving" and/or "not including it at all." Similarly, I loathe character bashing. I can't read significant-power-differential pairings (which shouldn't be an issue given these fandoms), incest, dub-con, or non-con unless they are significantly problematized, and I'd rather you not try.
I've deliberately chosen fandoms that mostly stay away from racefail, genderfail, and etceterafail, but if you find any elements of them problematic and want to include critique then please feel free to do so.
Porn I can take or leave, depending on what you think the story needs. For porn to work for me (on either the "writing" or "hur hur" level...) it generally needs to very much be an extension of/revelatory of character. I don't like super-explicit stuff, because it just turns into lines of text for me. Some mild kink is okay if it's important to the characterization, but in general it's not my thing. More than mild and it will almost certainly go wall-of-text, as well as possibly squicking me.
But, and I can't stress this enough, if you get an Utterly Brilliant Idea in one of these fandoms then please go for it instead of whatever my prompts spark. You and I are probably going to agree on what your best work is; and, ultimately, I'm asking for giftfic because I want to read other people's ideas.
Clover (manga) - Any
I am guaranteed to be delighted by basically everything in this fandom. No seriously. My one request is that I'd prefer, if you write A/Barus/General Kou, that they not be the only character in the story.
Okayso, you see what I said about happy endings up there? And about earning them? This ain't a happy verse. If you can wrangle a happy ending out of the way the canon's rules screw everyone, then go for it because a) I will love it forever and b) you're ferociously talented, OMG. But I feel like "acceptance" is probably going to be an easier ending to earn than "happiness" in this fandom, and you should feel free to embrace that fact.
I would love to see post-series fic about picking up the pieces. I would love to see something that seized on the baroque para-steampunk para-cyberpunk weirdness of the worldbuildng and ran with it. I would love to see something about learning to resist the world's nested unfairnesses. I would also love Things That Never Happened fic. Or elegies. Or, really, if you get stuck then just write me some telepathy porn. ^^
Coffee Prince - Any
This is another "will love everything" fandom. If it helps, one of my favorite things about the show is the way it balances the Han Kyul/Eun Chan OTP with highlighting the rest of the ensemble. Something about them integrating into each others' families would be awesome, as would coffeeshop slice of life.
The thing I love most about Coffee Prince is that eventually, every character we spend a decent amount of time with winds up being awesome. Feel free to shoehorn in as many people as possible. And have them all tease each other a lot. And all be awesome friends with each other. And <3. This is my happy shiny fandom of joy and while I would prefer something that wasn't, yanno, only fluff or crack I am probably going to be happiest with fic in this fandom if it includes some of one or the other or both.
Or, if you don't want to write huge ensemblefic, then just pick one or two of them and have fun. Unlikely-combination gen could be pretty awesome.
While I'm usually not too hung up on canon pairings, I'm going to want to make an exception here: pair up anyone you like who isn't paired at the end of the series, but pleaseplease don't break up any of the canon ships. I love them all, and I am ridiculously OTP about Eun Chan/Han Kyul.
Scott Westerfeld - Uglies trilogy - Shay, Tally
Shay and Tally's dynamic is my favorite thing about the series. I'd love anything that includes it as a major component, whether or not both of them are in the fic. Including other characters is more than okay, and I could go for gen or girlslash or het-with-other-people or w/ev.
There's really not much I can say to expand on that prompt: I love my girls, and I love how complex and weird the dynamic between them gets, and I love how they never quite give up on each other even when they think they have. I would love fic about them anytime within- or post-series, or fic in Things That Never Happened form.
The Middleman - Any
Appropriately madcap casefic would be The Best Thing Ever, as would anything dealing with the inner lives of the minor characters.
There's also not much I can say to expand on this. Plot would be awesome, though. I prefer Wendy & the Middleman to Wendy/Middleman; in general, I'd prefer gen or mostly-gen fic for this fandom. If you do want to include a ship, canon ships are loosely preferred, but note the loosely; I think Wendy/Tyler is adorable, but I'm not OTP about it or anything, and I have no particularly strong feelings about Lacey/Middleman.
Whether or not you decide to focus on the minor characters (I'm perfectly happy either way) I would love it if you found a way to include one/some of them. Ensemblefic wouldn't be a bad way to go.
I'm sorry that none of these is really a "gimme" fandom; I wibbled on IM for hours about possibly dropping one for a gimme, but ultimately couldn't settle on one to give up. None of them is terribly epic, though, and while Clover has been known to be tricky to find it is pretty short.
This letter was written, largely, between 2:15 AM and 3:30 AM the night signups closed, and as such it's as much an attempt to just make sure I had SOMETHING up before assignments went out as it is anything else. I am probably going to expand it to include pimping-type info on all my fandoms, dear Yulewriter, to give you more to choose from; feel free to check back! You know, if you want even more tl;dr.
